    • Leland served his beloved country in the United States Army and Army National Guard. He entered the Army as an enlistee on Jan. 9, 1952, in Sioux Falls, S.D., and saw combat as a rifleman with the 15th Infantry Division in Korea for a period of 12 months. His military career spanned 33 years with a couple of brief interruptions.
