  • Notes
    • Doctor Shirley Blyth Robertson was born and educated in Gisborne.
She qualified from Otago University Medical School in 1948 and her House Surgeon jobs were
      undertaken in Wellington Hospital.
Shirley completed her specialty training in Sheffeld, England, where she obtained the MRCOG.
It is believed she also undertook some postgraduate study in Manchester, England around this time.
In 1964/1965, Shirley returned to Gisborne and set up practice.
She joined the staff of Cook Hospital in 1967 and worked alongside Dr Marshall Stewart, until retirement in 1989, Shirley retained her staff position, and she continued in private practice for the duration of her hospital consultancy.
Shirley's work was highly regarded and she was the mainstay of the service while other obstetricians came and went.
In earlier years, Shirley played her part in the medical life of the community through her work on medical committees and her involvement with the administration of the public hospital and with Chelsea Private Hospital.
During this time, she was also an energetic office holder of the local branch of the MANZ.
