    • She attended the Madison public schools and later obtained a B.A. degree at Swarthmore College, Swarthmore, Pennsylvania, and M.A. and J.D. degrees at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (graduating from the Law School with honors in 1943). She then practiced law for about five years in Madison, before beginning work for the Wisconsin State government in Madison, concluding her last twenty years of employment as a hearing examiner (administrative law judge) in workers compensation.
      Emily was a long-time member of the Altrusa Club of Madison, the State and Dane County Bar Associations, and was a member and supporter of many wildlife organizations, including The Nature Conservancy, World Wildlife Fund, The Wilderness Society, and others. Emily was a member of St. Dunstan's Episcopal Church for many years.
