Notes - In the 1841 census Thomas was listed as a Lead Miner at Wanlockhead, as was his father, in the 1851 census Thomas was a 26 years old medical student boarding with a family in Edinburgh, that year he headed to Pennsylvania to join his brothers, tried for gold in California, eventually leaving from San Francisco for Sydney as the Ship's Surgeon aboard the "Orient", he arrived in Melbourne, Victoria in early1853, where he once more went to the Goldfields before settling in Melbourne and marrying, he and Margaret had two trips back to Scotland where two of his daughters were born, he was still studying when Mary was born in 1858 and he was a Surgeon when Edith was born in 1868. Thomas was President of the Medical Society of Victoria in 1877, in 1883 he and his daughter Mary sailed on an extensive trip to America, the UK and Europe, he died in 1892 of Pneumonia which he'd had for 6 weeks.
