Introduction
This is the story of many people who are the descendants of, or have married into the Staley Family which originally arrived in Victoria from 1848 to 1853, they were born in Scotland but the originator of this line (Thomas born abt 1769) was actually born in Co. Durham, England.
Thanks to the many people who have contributed something of their own particular branch of this tree which has been compiled, mostly the contributors will be mentioned in the Sources Index, as can be expected there are some discrepancies in records, bearing that in mind there will also be errors etc. and we’d like to hear about any differing information that you may have.
The history of this era shows that life was not easy in Scotland; the lure of gold and possibly a better life saw many undertake the arduous and dangerous journey to Australia.
